[Pokemon Go] Entei Raid boss: Counters, Weakness, Best Movesets, IV and CP
Pokemon GO trainers were expecting that with the departure for Legendary Raid Pokemon Lugia, Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos this week they might have been greeted with the release of Mewtwo.
Instead, Niantic surprised everyone with the announcement that the Johto Region Legendary Dogs - otherwise known as Raikou, Entei, and Suicune - will be introduced into the game.
And after a brief few difficult hours with the Pokemon GO servers going down, these three Legendary Pokemon are now live and inn the game.
Like the Legendary birds, these new Raid battle bosses will appear in stages across the world and rotate to a new region every month.
From August 31 to September 30, you can find these Legendary Pokémon in the following areas of the world:
• Raikou: an Electric-type Legendary Pokémon, can be battled throughout the Americas.
• Entei: a Fire-type Legendary Pokémon, can be battled throughout Europe and Africa.
• Suicune: a Water-type Legendary Pokémon, can be battled throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Then on September 30 these Legendary Pokemon will move round, but no details have been given on which region each Legendary dog will be switching to.
What we do know is that these very rare Pokemon will only be around for a limited time, so to make the process of battling them as easy as possible, below you'll find a guide to battling them, with details about their respective weaknesses and the best counters to use in battle.
In addition, we've run through each Pokemon's IV and best movesets.

Entei Raid Boss Guide
Entei is currently available to battle in raids until September 30, but unlike Raikou, Entei can be found in the UK, Europe and Africa.
However, the furthest cut off point between where you can capture Entei appears to be Nizhny Novgorod in Eastern Russia. Beyond this you're entering the terroitory for the Suicune Legendary Pokemon which is spawning in the Asia-Pacific region.
The CP for the Entei raid boss is 38628 and as you might expect it's not possible to solo the Legendary dog and we'd advise you take it on with at least 6-7 fellow trainers in order to take it down.
Once captured it can have a maximum capture CP of 1930, at Level 20, with a perfect IV score.
Befoe any of that though, you'll need to know how to counter Entei.
Entei Raid Counters
Entei is a pure Fire type Pokemon and as such there's quite a few possible counters.
As you'll see from the above gallery, you're primarily best suited using any water Pokemon, especially those capable of using the Hydro Pump ability.
But like the fellow Fire Legendary, Moltres, Entai is also vunerable to some ground Pokemon too
As such, while Omastar and Vaporeon are the best two Pokemon to use, you also can't go wrong with Golem, Tyranitar, Gyarados and Kingdra. Obviously opting for those with Hydro Pump and/or Stone Edge.
Entei Best Movesets:
As mentioned, Entei is a pure fire Pokemon and this is also reflected in the move sets, the best of which are marked in bold and italicised below:
• Fire Fang
• Fire Spin
• Fire Blast
Legendary Pokémon are coming to Pokémon Go
Along with the recent Raid news for Raikou, Entei and Suicune there was also further information about "Exclusive Raid Battles", which were first mentioned as a mechanic for introducing Mewtwo into the game.
However, now these are referred to as EX Raid Battles, but interestingly the press release sent out made no specific mention of Mewtwo. Here's what Niantic had to say:
"While these Legendary Pokémon [Raikou, Entei and Suicune] are traveling the world, we’ll also begin an EX Raid Battle (formerly Exclusive Raid Battle) field-testing phase at select Gyms before the feature is made available globally.
"We have collected some valuable early feedback on the new EX Raid Battle feature and will look to further test and hone the experience through the feedback of the dedicated global Trainer community.
"During the field test, we’ll be making periodic adjustments to EX Raid eligibility requirements, frequency, times, locations, and durations with the goal of making the EX Raid Battle feature engaging, rewarding, and most importantly, fun for Trainers who regularly participate in Raid Battles."
The first of these EX Raid Passes are supposedly being sent out "soon" with trainers able to sample the new feature as early as September 6, which is next Wednesday."
"Stay tuned for more updates as we launch the EX Raid Battle field test to more Gyms in the weeks ahead," Niantic continued.
"We look forward to reading all your constructive feedback on our social media channels and encourage you to continue share your thoughts throughout the EX Raid Battle field test!
